Thought I would share this with you this morning.  Have a great day!

Why I Don’t Use the F-Word

I honestly never thought I’d see the day when Christians would justify swearing.
I lived a sheltered life growing up. My Christian parents allowed me to watch a re-release of Gone With the Wind at the local theater when I was 12, and my virgin ears were scandalized when Rhett Butler told Scarlett, “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” I had never heard such language—and I knew that if I ever talked like Rhett Butler in my house, I would be sent to the backyard to choose my own switch.
Fast-forward to today, when profanity has so saturated our culture that dirty words are unavoidable. Dropping the F-bomb is a daily habit for millions of Americans. Jesse Sheidlower, the editor-at-large of the Oxford English Dictionary, says the F-word has lost its shock value. He says, “For most people, it’s hardly noticeable anymore.”
Today students wear “WTF?” T-shirts to school. I’ve seen the F-word indelibly tattooed on people’s arms in dark blue ink. And I’ve heard guys and girls alike use the F-word more than 15 times in a sentence to simply describe their day. There’s even a mock children’s book titled Go the F*** to Sleep that was one of the fastest-selling titles on Amazon in 2011. What’s going on here?
Music has certainly played a role in forcing the F-word on us. (Listen if you dare to any popular hip-hop artist for proof of this nastiness.) One song by the rock band Limp Bizkit a few years ago featured the F-word 50 times. American rapper CeeLo Green released a song in 2010 called F*** You, and it was nominated for a Grammy Award. Meanwhile, the Motion Picture Association of America recently relaxed its ratings code to allow more uses of the F-word in PG-13 movies. (The old rule only allowed one F-bomb per film.)
I’m not going on a crusade to wash out our nation’s potty mouth. We live in a free country. And besides, I don’t expect non-Christians to talk like Sunday school teachers. But at the risk of sounding like a prude, I think true believers need to be reminded that it’s not okay to talk trash. This certainly goes for preachers—no matter how young and trendy they are.
I honestly never thought I’d see the day when Christians would justify swearing. But it was only inevitable, since many popular preachers have emphasized greasy grace while overlooking our serious lack of discipleship. The underlying message these days is: “Don’t be religious or legalistic. We have to be relevant to the culture.” The implied meaning is: “Go ahead and talk dirty. God doesn’t care. Maybe when non-Christians hear you swearing, they won’t label you a religious nut.” I’m not buying that line for three reasons:
1. Filthy talk defiles you and those around you. Jesus said it is not what goes into the mouth of a person that defiles him, but what comes out of his mouth (Matt. 15:11). Then the apostle Paul wrote, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths” (Eph. 4:29, ESV). The word corrupting here refers to rotten fruit or rancid fish. Filthy talk stinks! Dirty words have the power to soil you—and the rancid odor will linger in your soul.
2. Obscene or crude language is a reflection of your inner character. British preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, “Beware of everyone who swears: he who would blaspheme his Maker would make no bones of lying or stealing.” Ephesians 5:4 says filthy talk or crude joking are not “befitting” a Christian (ASV). The NIV translates it this way: “Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place.” If a Christian defiantly insists on talking trash, he has revealed deeper flaws and can’t be trusted.
3. Rough language is a sign of an unsurrendered will. The psalmist wrote, “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!” (Ps. 141:3, ESV). Mature Christians invite the Holy Spirit to inspect every area of their lives: attitudes, thoughts, grudges and addictions—as well as coarse language. If you insist on holding on to carnal habits, you are quenching the Spirit’s fire. Your spiritual growth will be forever stunted.
The prophet Isaiah recognized that he was “a man of unclean lips” who lived among “a people of unclean lips” (Is. 6:5). After his repentance, an angel touched his lips with the hot coal of God’s holiness. We need this miracle today if we want to speak for God.
God wants to use our mouths as channels of His life and blessing, but we will never be His prophets if we talk like the world. Let God clean up your conversation.

Good morning ladies!  I thought I would write with this pretty blue background so that hopefully it would make us "feel" cooler!  It has really been hot already this week!  So... my thoughts for the day are ... how "hot" are we for the Lord Jesus Christ?  Have you had a good quiet time with the Lord yet this morning?  What Bible verses are you memorizing?  Just a thought. . .

Have a fabulous day!  See you tonight at prayer meeting!

Summer is coming to an end soon.  School is about to begin.  Please be in prayer for the administration and the faculty as preparations are being made for the new year at Westside Baptist Academy.  Pray for the returning and the new students.

Have a beautiful day in the House of the Lord today!

This weekend is "Tax Free" weekend for all!  It's a great time to purchase things your children will need for school (or maybe something new for yourself :)  Bargains are always a woman's delight, but let's remember that things that are cheap are not always the best.  Yesterday I was in a store that had prepared for this tax free weekend.  I think they must have pulled out to sell all of their junkiest stock of clothing!  Nothing is ever "free!"  Well, I will take that back.  Jesus offered us the greatest gift possible for free when He died on the cross for us!

Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Have a fabulous day!

It has been a few days since I was able to blog.  We just finished Neighborhood Bible Time at Westside.  What a blessing!

My Father has been not doing so well the last few days, so I have been staying with him.  Please pray for his complete recovery.  This time has reminded me that our ways are not always God's ways.  Sometimes the Lord has a completely different plan for the time in our days.  We need to learn to relax into His will and take joy in it instead of being a complainer!

Looking forward to this Sunday. . .

It's Bible Time!
Last night was a real blessing!  We started out the NBT week with over 150 children and

teens.  Several were saved and some made dedication decisions.  What a start!  Let's

continue to be in prayer this week that God will do some amazing things in the hearts of these

boys and girls that will last for eternity.  ~ See you tonight!

  • "It's Bible Time!"  What a wonderful week of canvassing we have had this week!  Thank you to all those who have come out to canvassing.  Let's continue to pray for the teachers and helpers as they prepare their lessons this week.  I took pictures of the canvassers last night and was going to show them to you this morning, but I am technically challenged and couldn't figure out how to download them off my camera - ha!  Well, maybe one of you can share that secret with me.

  • The Nursery is almost finished.  It is going to be a blessing!

  • Shared blessing from my devotions this morning:
I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold,
I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.

Have a great day!

We had a great start to Bible Time Canvassing last night.  We had 30 people out to canvass, and we signed up 34 new boys and girls to come to NBT!  What a fun time and a great blessing!  If you haven't come out to canvassing yet, please try to come.  Let's be praying too!

Have a great day!

Good morning!  We are gearing up for Neighborhood Bible Time at Westside Baptist Church.  This week is Canvassing Week.  Everyone is invited to come out!  We will start by meeting tomorrow morning (Tuesday) to get organized at 9:30 AM.  Tuesday night at 7:00 PM we will start going out into local neighborhoods to sign up new boys and girls for NBT.  Come out and help us!  It's very exciting to sign up a child or teen who comes and then gets saved next week in Bible Time.

Let's also be praying much for the teachers as they prepare their Bible stories and Missionary stories.  Let's also be praying for the Evangelists that will be coming to our church.

~ Have a great day!

Good Morning!  It's time to be in the House of the Lord!  I am looking forward to a wonderful day ~ sitting at Jesus' feet ~ hearing from the Word of God!

This picture reminds me of Pastor's home church in Panama, New York.  Whenever we would visit there, it would be like going back in time!  ~ Love it!

Psalm 122:1 - "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord."

Summer is a time to relax, get caught up on projects around the house, etc. Take time to relax this summer.  Jesus took time every once in a while to "come apart" and rest.  We need to come apart before we "come apart!"  Let's not leave the Lord out of our relaxing times though.  Sometimes the Lord gives us one of the best opportunities to witness when we are on vacation.  Let's stay in the image of Christ 100% of the time.  Have a wonderful day!

Getting up this morning, I had no agenda for the day.  Have you ever wondered what the Lord has in store

for you in a particular day?  It's good to set goals every day, but spiritually, we should have "no agenda" of

our own each day.  We should pray every morning, "Lord, You set the agenda for this day.  Bring into my

life today the people to which I can be a blessing"  Have a great day!

Well...yes...the day has finally come to turn 57 years old.  Life is wonderful with each passing year when you

know the Lord!  I was reading in my devotions this morning that God does not "clean up" for us after trials in

our life; He goes through them with us.  What a wonderful God we serve!  I hope you have a wonderful day!

I would like to ask everyone to give me a special birthday present today ~ spend some quality time in the

Word and with the Lord!  Love you all!

Psalm 118:24 -

"This is the day which the LORD hath made ; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

It's raining as we get ready for church this morning!  Often we complain about rainy days when, in reality, we should be thankful.  We need this rain in Texas!

Let's be thankful for everything God brings into our lives.  Hope to see you in church this morning!
Psalm 118:24

"This is the day which the LORD hath made ; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

It is raining this morning as we get ready to go to church.  Many times we are tempted to say something like, "O great, it's raining this morning.  That's going to make the day difficult!"  when really, we should be thankful for God sending the rain.  We need it in Texas!

Let's be thankful for everything God sends our way and look at it as a blessing in our life.  His way is perfect!

Have a great day. ~ Hope to see you in God's house today!

"Blessing for the Day"

I was reading in my devotions this morning in Joshua.  Joshua is dividing the promised land to the tribes of Israel.  I was thinking to myself as I was reading, "this is really pretty boring" when all of a sudden, two wonderful verses "popped out" at me ~

Joshua 21:44-45 - "And the Lord gave them rest round about, according to all that

he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies

before them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand.

There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the

house of Israel; all came to pass."

Every chapter in the Bible is vitally important!

So it's almost time for the next Ladies' Fellowship Meeting!  This

one will be about "Super Couponing!"  We will meet at the church

at 7:30 PM.  Come and bring a friend!  Also, you might like to

bring your own coupons to organize and anything else that might

be a help.  We will have a wonderful time around the Word of God

as well.  See you then!
Today is the Fine Arts Competition at WBA.  Pray for the students as they compete that they will have the Lord's help.
